Masterpieces of the Pola Museum of Art Western Paintings
This exhibition introduces masterpieces of 19th and 20th century Western art in the Pola Museum of Art collection.
Nineteenth century Impressionist artists such as Monet and Renoir employed unprecedented bold brush strokes and bright colors. Following such innovations, Seurat and Signac created pointillist techniques based on scientific theory and inspired other artists seeking new directions.
With the start of the 20th century, the art scene became increasingly active. Matisse and Picasso created works manipulating color and shape freely. At the same time, École de Paris artists competed and developed their own distinctive modes of expression.
Pierre Auguste Renoir, Girls Fishing for Mussels, ca. 1888-1889
Vincent van Gogh, The Gleize Bridge over the Vigueirat Canal, 1888
Paul Cézanne, Landscape in Provence, 1879-1882
Paul Signac Bridge at Auxerre 1902
Amedeo Modigliani, Portrait of Lunia Czechowska, 1917
Henri Matisse, The Lute, 1943
